Safety

Paddling is an exciting sport that has you out in nature experiencing life to its fullest. We would like you to experience it again and again and that is why we urge you to be careful out there. There are some fantastic safety devices out there that are easy to use and not cumbersome while paddling. We advocate that all paddlers use then whether one is out for a social paddle with friends or trying to do your personal best on your favourite stretch of downwind paddling.

LIFE JACKET/ PFD.

a. The brighter the better

b. If it slides up over your face when you try it on – it is too big. The last thing you need when swimming down a rapid is to not see where you are going!

WATERPROOF CELLPHONE

Basics: IP67, not slippery when wet, has a lanyard attachment point, does not need a waterproof pouch to operate.

We will hopefully do a product review soon to help you – watch the NEWS section for updates.

PADDLE LEASH.

Secure your paddle to yourself or your ski so that when you fall out you have one less thing to worry about. It may also slow your ski from drifting away from you.

TRACKING SYSTEM

There are a lot of ideas on the market at the moment. From NSRI’s – safetrx app to devices costing R5000 plus which can only be used once.

Bear in mind cellphone based methods are only   as good as the cellphone coverage. GPS systems are more expensive but worth it.
